Dell Adamo XPS to target Macbook Air - head on

Most of you guys will remember the first Dell Adamo - it was quite attractive, but rather overpriced and from all accounts, not a massive seller either. Dell haven't rested on their laurels and they are aiming to target the style conscious users with a focus on maximum portability. If you want to look cool while you travel - then you will be seriously contemplating one of these.

We managed to sneak a look at the Dell Adamo thanks to our great contacts in the company and we can say it is shaping up to be a beautiful machine.

The profile of the machine is 13.39 inches wide by 10.78 inches long - when you close the lid it measures 0.41 inches at the thickest part of the chassis (rear) and narrows to a mere 0.38 inches at the front. The original Adamo was 0.65 inches from front to back, so the new machine has been on a diet.

The word "Adamo" means "fall in love" and is a bold statment from Dell, who generate the bulk of their sales from price aware, lower end machines for offices and businessmen. Dell told us that they reckon the Adamo XPS "will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it."

The unit also features a capacitive latching device which means you can flick it open with just a swipe of your finger and is supplied with a displayport connection, two USB ports (Macbook Air still only has one) and audio and ethernet ports.

The estimated pricing will be in the $1,800 zone with several configurations being offered.

We didn't manage to take shots of the machine as ours was a pre production sample, but there are some great pictures on PCmag over here

Re: Dell Adamo XPS to target Macbook Air - head on

the keys look reminiscent of the Apple notebooks, which is a good thing, really easy to type on, but wtf is with the location of the hinge & I/O ports - that's going to be a turn off for many people - the angle looks quite uncomfortable to work with imo...

The hinge is certainly unusual, I agree.

Is this a joke? Who can type at that angle?

The price tag is high, although I don't know the inside of the system yet, the potential price for the UK and (in 10 years when Dell decides to send one here with an atom CPU and a GMA450) Greece, is scary.

well to be fair, thats kinda the angle my missus has her lappy at when she's reclining in bed with it, and it does look quite sexy.
but you just know by the time it makes it to the UK its gonna be a scary price

Even though it looks cool I don't think i would like the angle and it looks like it could tend to be VERY uncomfortable on your lap. Just saying
