DriverHeaven @ Ces 2009 Day 3

CES is beginning to wind down but Driver Heaven are still hard at work finding the latest new technology from the show. Here is our final look at the highlights from CES 2009 in Las Vegas.

Crucial/Lexar
Over at the Crucial booth we were shown new models in the Jumpdrive series which increase the capacity of the range as well as add features like activity LED. Most enthusiasts know that SSDs are shock resistant but Crucial had a rather unique way of demonstrating this to the uneducated .... strap one to a paint mixer and watch as the video streaming from it continues uninterrupted. The Ballistix memory range has also been refreshed and the new triple channel kits, which run up to 1600MHz, feature new blue LEDs with much more interesting patterns than existing models. The final item of note on their stand was a custom built PC within a globe case.

Hauppauge
As well as a number of their WinTV range Hauppauge were displaying their new HD PVR at CES. This small unit is responsible for recording high definition video at resolutions up to 1080i from sources such as YCrCb and cable/satellite boxes. As well as recording in H.264 with Dolby Digital or AAC the HDPVR can also act as an IR blaster which changes set top box channel as required.

Psyko
5.1 surround sound headsets have been around for a while now and we have reviewed a couple including models from Zalman and Razer but Psyko believe their new solution will take the technology to a new level. As well as creating headphones with zero latency and various other technologies they have put a lot of thought into the comfort and usability aspects of the product by including side panels which tilt open to let in air and allow the user to hear sound outside the headphones.

MotionDSP
MotionDSP are best known for their image enhancement work which allows law enforcement agencies to enhance images and video to reveal details which are not initially visible. A prime example being number plates in security camera footage. At CES they were demonstrating their new consumer software at the Nvidia booth as it utilises CUDA for enhanced performance. vReveal allows the consumer to increase the resolution of video as well as reduce noise, sharpen and stabilise footage all at the touch of a few buttons or for the more adventurous via the use of sliders. Seeing the software in action was very impressive and we look forward to testing it when it launches in March.
